Other candidates are not mounting an effective campaign, or are single-issue candidates, or are perennial candidates for whatever election(s) are taking place and in essence none of these are really serious alternatives to front-runner incumbent Cllr. Ginny Foat. Their presence in the race just muddies the waters for anyone wanting Palm Springs to have a new Mayor who is not tainted by the criminal investigations associated with the current Mayor and current members of the City Council.
For me the choice is simple: we either elect a new Mayor untainted by the current corruption scandal or, as the FBI investigation goes on into next year with new revelations every week, we have the City and Mayor tainted by yet more scandal and corruption allegations, in the process continuing to damage the reputation of the City.
Rob Moon represents a fresh start. He is knowledgeable about the City's finances and operations and Chaired its Measure J Commission. He's also principled as he resigned from that position when it became apparent that the City had distorted the intent of the Measure J tax by taking most of those extra tax revenues to run City operations, unlike others, who saw wrong-doing and did nothing.
I don't know whether or not he'll win. I think he has many obstacles to overcome to do so, but I want to vote in this election and I want my vote to reflect my concerns about my City and my desire for someone NEW to lead it. Because of that, once I read the candidates' responses (and non-responses) to the South Palm Springs survey, my choice was simple.
