South Palm Springs needs a concerted approach to help boost investment and improve the facilities and amenities available to residents. Palm Canyon Drive is no longer a state highway, (CA-111 runs along Vista Chino and down Gene Autry), but it is still treated like one. Hotels, restaurants and housing are all expanding in the vicinity and traffic needs to be slowed, the environment made safer for pedestrians and cyclists and the area improved in ways that encourage visitors and residents alike to make it a place they come TO rather than one they drive THROUGH.
TO THAT END WE PROPOSE THE CREATION OF THE SOUTH PALM SPRINGS HOSPITALITY DISTRICT ENCOMPASSING THE AREA BOUNDED BY PALM CANYON DRIVE (South and East), SUNRISE AVE AND SUNNY DUNES. AND THAT MEASURE J FUNDS BE USED TO ENHANCE AND IMPROVE THE STREET-SCAPE AND ROADWAYS OF THIS AREA IN A MANNER THAT IMPROVES THE WALKABILITY SCORES OF HOMES IN SOUTH PALM SPRINGS.
We have until May 4th to champion application of Measure J funds to improvements of S. Palm Canyon Drive. Visit pssafetyform.com or psmeasurej.com to express your views.
